Polyurea lining is one of the linings used to prevent corrosion in various environments, including galvanized tank and composite tanks. This lining has very high chemical resistance, making it suitable for many fluids. These types of linings can be produced with high thickness. Additionally, polyurea lining, once applied, creates a uniform smooth surface and dries quickly. These linings have various applications, such as waterproofing tanks, increasing corrosion resistance, and improving immersion resistance. Polyurea lining can be applied to different surfaces, including cement, wood, metal, etc. These linings can withstand a wide range of temperatures and humidity. One of the most important factors for the high use of polyurea lining is its fast curing speed in the environment. It also provides good preparation and allows for quality testing during application.
What is Polyurea Used For?
When it comes to applying polyurea, specific equipment is needed. Polyurea is a material composed of amine resin and isocyanate. When mixed, these two substances react almost instantly. Our polyurea tank lining equipment is highly mobile and can be used in most areas due to its size. With up to 100 feet of hose, it can reach difficult areas such as vertical storage tanks and roofs.
When applying the materials, both substances must be heated to 70 degrees Celsius to help achieve the same viscosity for both liquids. Both materials are sprayed from a spray gun. When the trigger is pulled, equal parts are emitted into a mixing chamber, resulting in almost immediate curing. This material can be built up to any thickness, providing excellent structural integrity.
Advantages of Polyurea Lining
Due to its high adhesion to surfaces, polyurea is a suitable replacement for epoxy resins, polyurethane linings, fiberglass linings (FRP), and other linings. Polyurea lining has high elasticity and low permeability. The combination of these properties and its high impact resistance makes polyurea lining highly durable and flexible. Polyurethane systems can be sprayed onto different substrates.
Polyurea or polyurea lining is used in various environments, such as acidic and alkaline environments, seawater, environments with polar solvents, mines, transfer pipes, and more.
Some unique features of these linings include chemical resistance, high abrasion resistance over long periods, high moisture resistance, low permeability, and being environmentally friendly. High work efficiency, excellent adhesion, no curing requirement, and ease of repair are some of the benefits of these linings.
Preparation
The most important step to ensure the adhesion of the coating to a substrate like steel is the preparation stage. Sandblasting is the best form of preparation as it .removes a small amount of the steel surface, creating peaks and valleys for the new coating to adhere to
The sandblasting process must comply with COMAH regulations, meaning it should not spark. All our equipment is grounded, our sandblasting hoses are anti-static, and our blasters use anti-static Ellingtons with insulated and flame-resistant clothing. Atex lighting is used for illuminating the tank during sandblasting, and no other heat-generating light sources are allowed inside the tank. After sandblasting, the dust removal stage begins to clean the tank surface.
