Fire-resistant paint is a type of fireproof coating. IRPOLF is an intumescent fire-resistant paint made from unique nanocomposite ceramic compounds based on water. These fire-resistant paints are silica-based, and upon exposure to fire, they produce a layer of char that insulates and protects the underlying surface. The maximum thickness of this type of fireproof coating is 4 millimeters. This composition has a very low level of volatile substances and combines properties with very high fire resistance, corrosion resistance, thermal insulation, and vapor resistance. These fire-resistant paints are single-component and can be easily used in various applications.

Important Factors in Fire-Resistant Paint

Several factors contribute to preventing fires. The structural design of the building is part of the required coating. What the building is used for and its height are important considerations. There are three factors that determine how much time your building needs to withstand a fire:

Required Fire Resistance Time Building Height Type of Building
30 minutes Non-residential buildings < 5m Offices, shops, companies
60 minutes Residential buildings < 5m Apartments, healthcare centers
90 minutes Residential buildings < 13m , Non-residential buildings > 13m Schools, hotels, residential buildings, prisons
120 minutes Residential buildings > 13m , High-risk buildings Schools, hospitals, commercial complexes, libraries, industrial sites

Always consult a specialist about fireproof coatings to ensure your building is properly protected and complies with established standards. Ista Polymer Sharif experts can guide you in selecting the appropriate fire-resistant paint for your building and required standards.

Applications of Fire-Resistant Paint

  • Fireproofing metal structures (including buildings, power plants, refineries, petrochemicals)
  • Strategic metal water tanks
  • Use for concrete structures

Advantages of Nano-IRPOLF Fireproof Coating

  • Provides time for evacuation and reduces casualties
  • Reduces financial losses and increases time for firefighters to control the fire
  • Increased nitrogen gas cools the structure and slows the fire, with a reaction temperature of 200-220°C. This is the best material for flammable wooden structures, with a fireproof coating standard of A.

Fire-resistant paint is a water-based compound that expands into foam upon exposure to fire. These paints are vapor-resistant, preventing corrosion beneath the surface. They have very low thermal conductivity. The final coating with these paints becomes hard and durable. They are environmentally friendly and simple to apply without complexity. They can be applied to equipment with any complex geometry. Using these fire-resistant paints helps maintain the appearance at high temperatures and does not significantly change the weight of the surface. They have high adhesion to metal surfaces, do not produce smoke and toxic gases, and have high moisture resistance. These paints are also resistant to the growth of algae and bacteria.

International Standards for Fire-Resistant Paint

Fire-resistant paint standards are divided into four categories, named from A to E based on the volume of fire.

Fire-Resistant Paint Category Flame Spread Rating Fire Exposure Resistance
Class A 0 – 25 Excellent
Class B 26 – 75 Moderate
Class C 76 – 200 Low
Class D 201 – 500 None
Class E 500 + None

In general, there are two types of resistant paint: one that is fire-resistant and the other that is fire-retardant, each employing different methods to prevent fires.
