What is a polyethylene tank?

Polyethylene water tank
The price of these tanks is more suitable compared to other tanks, and the ability to produce them in different dimensions has made them bestsellers. These tanks are capable of storing various fluids at temperatures lower than 40 degrees Celsius and under ambient pressure. Due to their affordable price and other advantages, polyethylene water tanks are mostly used for storing drinking water. Polyethylene water sources for drinking water can be multi-layered.
Multi-layered polyethylene tanks, besides being multi-layered, can also be produced as single-layer with higher thicknesses. These tanks have an inner final layer without any additives. Polyethylene water tanks can be produced manually or on-site. On-site manufactured polyethylene water tanks, with thicknesses of 10 millimeters and above, have gained a wide market. They are manufactured on-site, mostly with vertical processes.
Manufacturing process of polyethylene tanks
Polyethylene, abbreviated as PE, is a type of plastic. Almost all polyethylene tanks are produced through molding processes. In this process, a quantity of polyethylene powder is poured into a mold and heated along special rails to adhere to the entire inner surface of the mold. Then it is removed from the mold and taken to rooms to gradually cool and harden by reducing the temperature.
The process of making vertical tanks is simpler than other types and has a lower cost. The highest price is also related to cubic tanks. Another type of classification of these tanks is based on their layers. The presence of more layers prevents the growth of algae due to sunlight reaching the tank.

Vertical polyethylene tank

They are installed on smooth and safe surfaces. Horizontal and all other polyethylene tanks are produced layer by layer, with each layer having its specific function.
Advantages of polyethylene tanks
Bulk polyethylene water tanks have very high environmental and light resistance and have mostly been used in the domestic market. Compared to galvanized tanks, polyethylene tanks have major advantages. Thermal insulation and high resistance to corrosion are among the advantages of these multi-layered plastic tanks. Polyethylene water tanks can also be equipped with polyethylene pipe closures or blind tubes. Polyethylene gate tanks up to 3 meters in diameter can be produced in the country. Prefabricated polyethylene gate tanks are produced and can be buried without a metal structure.
Polyethylene tanks today, being rust-resistant, having a smooth surface, being lightweight compared to metal tanks, being easily transportable, and having a relatively long lifespan, are widely used due to these reasons. They are used in various fields such as agriculture, construction, storage of chemical and sanitary materials.
Excellent quality of polyethylene tanks
Polyethylene tanks can be made from high-quality raw materials and food-grade materials, as well as from recycled materials. If used for drinking water purposes, they must be of food-grade quality, which has a higher price compared to recycled polyethylene. The larger the volume of water storage required, the more raw materials are needed, and the more difficult and time-consuming the mold-making process will be, resulting in an increase in the final price of the tank.
Today, due to the conditions of apartment living and the shortage of space, more underground or cubic tanks should be used, which have a higher price compared to vertical and horizontal tanks.

Materials incompatible and compatible with polyethylene tanks
Composite hydrocarbon-based materials have a chemical composition similar to polyethylene. Chemicals such as gasoline, kerosene, alcohol, methanol, and isopropyl alcohol can potentially penetrate polyethylene materials and leak through polyethylene tanks. Solvents can also degrade or soften polyethylene, affecting its performance and durability. In these cases, fiberglass tanks are a more intelligent choice.
However, polyethylene may not be the best choice for acid tanks for chemicals with low flash points or chemicals similar to polyethylene. Cross-linked polyethylene with high density is ideal for storing acids and inorganic bases such as sodium hypochlorite, sulfuric acid, alum, and polymers. Many other chemical materials are mineral-based. These chemical materials are mostly used in wastewater treatment plants and industries.
