Potassium ethyl xanthate (PEX) is an inorganic chemical compound formed by combining a solution of organic salts and alcohol with carbon disulfide in the presence of an alkali. Its molecular formula is C2H5OCSSK, and it appears as a light yellow powder (or particles) with a strong odor.
Applications of Potassium Ethyl Xanthate
This substance is one of the best selective collectors. It can be applied to a wide range of non-ferrous metal sulfide flotation or complex flotation. It can also be used on sulfides applied to lead oxide ores. Additionally, it can act as a hydrometallurgical precipitating agent (such as in zinc electrolyte purification) and as an accelerator in rubber vulcanization.
