In this article from ABtank, we discuss what a double-walled polyethylene tank is, its applications, and its advantages. To store water or liquids such as acids and bases, metal and plastic water storage tanks, or acid tanks can be used. However, plastic tanks made of polyethylene, with their different shapes and the use of each shape for a specific application, are suitable for storing liquids at a reasonable price. These tanks are also very important in the agricultural industry, and given that Iran has a vast agricultural sector, the use of tanks is crucial. Besides classifying tanks based on their shape, such as vertical water tanks, horizontal, rectangular, under-stair tanks, etc., tanks can also be classified based on the number of layers, ranging from single-layer to multi-layer tanks. Each type of classification and different tank models should be used in a specific environment.
Applications of Double-Walled Polyethylene Tanks
Most buyers of double-walled tanks are workshops and factories. A key issue in storing water in tanks is that UV light must not penetrate the tank, as it causes algae growth. In cases where the tank is used for drinking water, algae growth changes the color, odor, and taste of the water, making it unsuitable for drinking. Even if the water is not for drinking, such as for agricultural or industrial use, algae growth clogs and damages the tank, leading to water waste and excessive tank cleaning operations, thereby shortening the tank’s lifespan and being economically inefficient.
Advantages of Double-Walled Tanks
Double-walled tanks prevent sunlight from entering the tank due to an additional layer containing food-grade pigments, which are usually black. Single-walled tanks, on the other hand, allow sunlight to penetrate due to their translucent inner surface, leading to algae growth, making them anti-algae tanks. In other words, when a double-walled tank is used, its protective layer prevents sunlight penetration, thus inhibiting algae and bacterial growth. Therefore, double-walled tanks should be used in open and sunny areas. However, it’s important that these tanks are not in extremely hot environments, as excessive heat can also cause algae growth, which double-walled tanks cannot counteract.
Advantages of Double-Walled Polyethylene Tanks
- Production of food-grade tanks with international standards
- Suitable for drinking water storage
- Stable and resistant to UV radiation
- Good color durability
- Long lifespan
- Anti-algae and antibacterial
- Suitable for storing fuel and other chemicals
- Smooth and seamless inner surface to prevent algae growth
- Resistant to a wide temperature range, both below and above zero, due to double walls
- Non-corrosive
- Resistant to natural disasters such as earthquakes
- Leak-proof
- Environmentally friendly due to no leakage of the tank’s contents (acid, base, fuel) into the surrounding environment
- Corrosion-resistant
